Pure Cruise is a unique sailing cruise experience on Lake Rotoiti, Rotorua. Based in Okawa Bay, Pure Cruise is only 15 minutes transfer by road from Rotorua and 3 hours from Auckland. Every cruise is tailored to guests’ desires, activity choices, requirements and duration.

The Yacht Tiua

Pure Cruise guests are welcomed aboard Tiua, where they can relax in the spacious saloon, covered cockpit and deck areas. Tiua is a luxury 53ft long sailing catamaran, surveyed to carry up to 50 guests and fully equipped for enjoyment, comfort and safety. Our crew are qualified, experienced, friendly professionals. On-board facilities include galley, licensed bar and three guest bathrooms.

Experience Lake Rotoiti, geothermal areas and local Maori heritage 

Explore the sparkling waters and hidden gems of picturesque Lake Rotoiti and discover beautiful sandy coves, lake edge hot springs and cultural sites. Your skipper and host will recite stories of the lake, it’s history and the local indigenous Maori people. Guests can choose to soak in the rejuvenating Manupirua lakeside hot pools. Cruises can be tailored to your requirements and duration, with a usual charter taking 3-4 hours.

Matt Horder is a talented skipper and convivial host. His laid-back, friendly attitude completes a most relaxing (or active) sailing experience and his involvement with the luxury yacht charter business in New Zealand is significant. Matt has an enviable knowledge of all aspects of Lake Rotoiti and will take great pleasure in making your time with Pure Cruise truly memorable.

Matt is an experienced, qualified ship’s captain and marine engineer, having sailed super yachts globally for a number of years. He’s happy to share sailing tips with guests and you’re welcome to help sail this beautiful vessel – take the opportunity to learn to sail from one of the best.


Tina Masters

Tina Masters is a bubbly, energetic professional with a passion for the great outdoors. Her peers describe her as a “high achieving adventuress” and when it comes to anything to do with water she’s in her element.

Tina is a certified skipper but it doesn’t end there. She has a master’s degree in Business Management as well as a Bachelor of Education with a physical education major. Previously, Tina was operations manager at the Sir Edmund Hillary Outdoor Pursuits Centre and also developed the sports degree programme for the Bay of Plenty Sports Faculty.

Tina enjoys spending her leisure time traveling, kayaking and mountain biking. That’s when she’s not with her daughter on the equestrian circuit.

Tina has tribal affiliations with Tainui and Te Arawa (Ngati Pikiao), is a proud cultural ambassador and is a real asset aboard Tiua when it comes to sharing local culture with our guests.

Felicity Thomas
Hello! I'm Felicity Thomas

Felicity Thomas (affectionately nicknamed Flic) joined the Pure Cruise team in 2012. Her affable personality compliments the tone of the Pure Cruise guest experience. Felicity brings her extensive knowledge within the hospitality industry to the fore aboard Tiua with her professional, confident, yet relaxed natural style.

When she is not hosting guests Flic wears the operations manager cap, leveraging her several year’s experience working in management and banking.

Felicity loves the great outdoors and meeting new people. She is a passionate New Zealand ambassador who will make certain you have the very best time with us on Lake Rotoiti.

Sam Roil
Hello! I'm Sam Roil

Sam Roil is a consummate professional and a very amiable guy. Naturally, he’s a fully qualified licensed skipper but he’s also a trained fireman and has a degree in outdoor education. Sam’s charming, informal character is guaranteed to keep everyone entertained and relaxed.

Sam’s passion for outdoor pursuits is unquenchable. When he’s not at the helm of Tiua, Sam can usually be found racing his superfast 18-foot Skiff on Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf, kite surfing on the lake, or mountain biking in Rotorua’s world-renowned Whakarewarewa forest.

It’s easy to get to know Sam. He’s a great communicator and obliging host. After no time at all you’ll be made first mate!
